Metagaming is when you, the player, exploit knowledge the characters don't or shouldn't know. One example of this would be if a player has their character suddenly turn the room's temperature up, knowing that the other players had just discussed a villain who uses ice-based weapons will appear any moment. What constitutes metagaming boils down to case-by-case basis and depends on how convenient a situation is. Use common sense when writing.
